What’s The Deal With Threads?

Turns out text is still big on social media in 2023!

Over 100 million people have downloaded the app in less than a week 🤯 – making it the fastest-growing app ever, beating ChatGPT.

Will Threads replace Twitter?

Will Threads replace Twitter?

No. Threads is a friendly rival to Twitter 🥊

Adam Mosseri notes that “The goal is to create a public square for communities on Instagram that never really embraced Twitter and for communities on Twitter (and other platforms) that are interested in a less angry place for conversations, but not all for Twitter.”

However, it is important to note that Anthony Bartolacci, managing director at Sensor Tower told CNBC that  “the platform’s number of daily active users were down about 20% from Saturday, and the time spent for user was down 50%, from 20 minutes to 10 minutes.”

How does Instagram Threads work?

As you open the app, it does look and feel like Twitter, but there are some key differences.
Threads purely run off their own algorithm, meaning no hashtags or boosted content fuels posts…yet 👀

Despite it being text-based like their rival, you can also:

👉 Include links, photos and videos up to five minutes long.

👉 Threads can be shared to your Instagram story, feed, and even shared to Twitter, directly from the platform

👉 You can’t delete your Threads account but you can deactivate it, which will hide your content and profile.

👉 You can follow all your followers from your Instagram account

👉 You can either import all your information from your Instagram account or start fresh

Additionally. The head of Instagram Adam Mosseri announced that Threads will begin introducing hashtags, editing, multiple accounts, post search, like lists, translations and web presence.

It’s also important to note that Threads isn’t available in Ireland or Europe due to regulatory uncertainties with the Digital Markets Act

According to the Verge, “Information from Apple’s App Store suggests that Threads could collect a wide array of sensitive data, including health and location data as well as a user’s contacts and search history.”

These are concerns that Meta aims to resolve to become available in as many countries as possible.

To conclude, Threads is a great new social media platform for any brand seeking to express their personality. It gives brands a voice and a character. It is easy to use and despite it being text-based, you can still upload other forms of content to reach your audience.

Since it is new, there is still more to expect, from policy updates to usability such as hashtags, multiple accounts, like lists, translations and much more.

All in all, if you’re a lover of social media or looking for a channel that’s like Twitter, but isn’t Twitter, then Threads is your best bet.
