At the start of 2023, Statista recorded a third of UK adults actually remembered coming across an OOH advert. 

With OOH being the second-best non-digital advertising touchpoint in the UK, coming after TV, ambient advertising is not one to ignore. 

Ambient advertising comes in all different shapes and sizes. 
Ambient advertising is normally outside of home, in unique yet popular areas such as park benches, TV adverts, floor stickers. train stations, sides of a building, bus stops or large areas – pretty much any large display in public that would create an experiential or interactive campaign. 

But another form of ambient advertising is actually QR codes, which have become increasingly popular. 

Why? Because QR codes are effective for driving OOH engagement. 

Whether it’s on a shop window or placemat at a bar, QR codes are an essential touchpoint for brands to share value and drive sales. According to a 2022 Sightline study called The DOOH Difference, 94% of people found QR codes to be useful. 

There are tonnes of great examples of ambient advertising, but ones that stuck out to us have been McDonalds zebra crossing designed as fries, a giant-sized Rimmel drying nail polish placed in the streets of London, the British Airways recent British Orignal campaign placing creative outdoor campaigns around London as well as Samsungs folded billboard to promote their Samsung Fold. 

 

To sum it up, ambient advertising is aimed to feel natural and relevant. Ambient campaigns are strategically thought out to convey their message clearly and effectively, in a creative way.
